Brevo: what it is, how it works & who it's for

Email, SMS, WhatsApp and CRM platform with a free plan and transactional email API

Updated · Pricing checked October 2026

Sendinblue rebranded as Brevo in May 2023.

What is Brevo?

Brevo is a customer engagement platform that combines email marketing, SMS, WhatsApp, marketing automation and a CRM in one account. Known as Sendinblue until 2023, it is based in Paris and also offers a transactional email service through an API and SMTP relay. That mix makes it useful both to marketers sending campaigns and to developers sending order confirmations or password resets.

Brevo prices its plans mainly by email volume rather than by contact count, and the free plan can store a large contact list while capping daily sends. Paid plans add automation, A/B testing, WhatsApp, push notifications and AI agents for marketing, sales and data analysis. Brevo also sells loyalty, live chat and meeting tools for teams that want one platform.

Brevo FAQ

Is Brevo free?

Yes. Brevo has a free plan that needs no credit card. It lets you store up to 100,000 contacts and send up to 300 emails per day after your account is approved. Free emails carry Brevo branding. Paid plans remove the logo, raise sending volume and unlock features such as automation and A/B testing.

What is Brevo used for?

Brevo is used for email marketing, SMS and WhatsApp campaigns, marketing automation and transactional email. Businesses use it to send newsletters, automate welcome and cart reminder flows, and manage leads in its CRM. Developers use its API and SMTP relay to send order confirmations, receipts and password resets from their apps.

Is Sendinblue the same as Brevo?

Yes. Sendinblue changed its name to Brevo in May 2023. The rename reflected the move from an email tool to a broader platform that includes a CRM, sales tools and more channels. Existing Sendinblue accounts, features and integrations carried over to Brevo.

Brevo vs Mailchimp: what's the difference?

The main difference is how they charge. Brevo prices plans mostly by email volume, so storing a large list costs less, while Mailchimp prices by contact count. Brevo also includes transactional email, SMS and WhatsApp in the same account. Mailchimp is often viewed as more polished for design-focused newsletters.

Does Brevo integrate with Shopify?

Yes. Brevo offers an official Shopify integration that syncs customers and orders so you can send cart reminders, order updates and targeted campaigns. It also has official plugins for WooCommerce, WordPress and Magento, and connects with more than 150 tools including Zapier and Make.
